Boswell Terms of Service
Last updated: July 10, 2026
TL;DR
Boswell Pro is a subscription — billed monthly or annually. There's also a permanent Free tier you can use at no cost, with no time limit. When you subscribe to Pro, you provide a payment method and it renews until you cancel. You can cancel anytime from your account; your Pro access then runs to the end of the period you've already paid for. We don't hold your recordings on a server.
These Terms apply to copies of Boswell purchased through the direct-distribution channel at https://meetboswell.com. Mac App Store purchases are governed instead by Apple's Standard EULA (and you should consult those terms separately).
1. Definitions
A few terms are used throughout this document with specific meanings:
- "Boswell," "we," "us," "our" — the maker of the Boswell application and operator of https://meetboswell.com.
- "You," "your" — the individual person who agrees to these Terms and uses Boswell.
- "The app" — the Boswell macOS application you install and run on your Mac. The app is separate from the site: it runs locally on your machine and stores all recordings, transcripts, and notes locally. It calls out to the site to verify your subscription entitlement and, if you use cloud AI, to reach the Boswell-funded cloud service or the LLM providers you have configured yourself.
- "The site" — the website at https://meetboswell.com and any pages and APIs served from that domain. The site does not process in-app checkout or account sign-in; the subscribe flow, and all account and billing management, are initiated inside the app.
- "Boswell Pro" (or "Pro") — the paid feature set of the app, unlocked by an active subscription.
- "Free tier" — the set of features available in the app at no cost, with no time limit. It is a permanent access level, not a limited-time offer.
- "Subscription" — the recurring (monthly or annual) personal license to use Boswell Pro, described in section 4.
- "Account" — the email-addressed record you create by signing in inside the app (Settings → Account). Signing in is required to use Boswell, including the Free tier; your account identifies you across your Macs and manages any Pro subscription.
- "BYOK" (Bring Your Own Key) — the supported configuration in which you supply your own API key for a compatible LLM provider. When you use BYOK, your prompts and responses flow directly between the app on your Mac and the LLM provider you've chosen; they do not pass through Boswell's servers.
2. Eligibility
To agree to these Terms and use Boswell, you must be at least 16 years old, or older if the minimum age of digital consent in your country is higher. Boswell is a professional productivity tool intended for adults and older teens; it is not directed at children under the applicable minimum age. If you are not old enough to agree to these Terms where you live, please do not use Boswell.
If you are using Boswell in connection with your work, you also represent that you have the authority to accept these Terms for that use — meaning, if your employer or organization has policies that govern what software you may install or what data you may record, compliance with those policies is your responsibility.
Boswell is currently available only as a macOS application distributed through https://meetboswell.com and the Mac App Store. Use is limited to individuals; entity subscriptions are not offered at this time.
3. License grant
An active Boswell Pro subscription grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Boswell's Pro features on your own personal Macs for as long as the subscription remains active. Your subscription is tied to the account email you sign in with, not to any one machine: you may sign in on any of your personal Macs to use Pro on that machine.
Boswell Pro is for your individual personal use. There are no seats, workspaces, shared accounts, or team licenses. You may not use a single subscription to enable Pro features for another person, share your account credentials, or otherwise extend the scope of the license beyond your own use.
While your subscription is active, you receive every update to Boswell — patches, minor versions, and new major versions — at no additional charge. If your subscription ends, Boswell reverts to the Free tier; your locally stored recordings, transcripts, and notes remain yours and stay on your Mac.
4. Billing & cancellation
Boswell Pro is offered as a monthly or annual subscription. When you subscribe, you provide a payment method and the plan you chose renews automatically — monthly or annually — until you cancel.
You can cancel anytime from Settings → Billing in the app, through Stripe's hosted Customer Portal. When you cancel, your Pro access continues until the end of the billing period you've already paid for, after which Boswell reverts to the Free tier. We do not issue partial refunds for the unused portion of a billing period.
There are no seats and no proration lines. Your subscription covers you on as many of your own personal Macs as you choose to sign in on; you are never charged extra for switching machines or signing in on a second device.
When a subscription ends, lapses for non-payment, or a payment is reversed, the corresponding Pro entitlement is marked inactive. The next time the app checks in (typically within 24 hours of opening), it reverts to the Free tier. Your locally stored recordings and transcripts are unaffected; nothing is deleted from your Mac.
The subscribe flow is entirely in-app; the website does not process checkout. If you have questions about your bill, receipts, or payment history, visit your Stripe Customer Portal from Settings → Billing in the app, or email support@meetboswell.com.
5. Transfer
Moving your subscription to a different account email is handled manually through support. Email support@meetboswell.com from the original account email with the proposed new email and a brief explanation. We will evaluate transfer requests on a case-by-case basis and may decline transfers we suspect are part of account resale or assignment to a third party.
Subscriptions may not be transferred, sold, gifted, or assigned to another individual without our prior written consent.
6. Chargebacks
A chargeback initiated through your card issuer revokes the Pro access tied to that payment immediately upon our receipt of the dispute. We treat a chargeback as a claim that a payment was not authorized, and in response we remove the Pro entitlement for the disputed period.
If you initiated the chargeback in error or believe there has been a mistake, contact support@meetboswell.com within 14 days and we will work with you to resolve it. We may restore access once the dispute is resolved in our favor or withdrawn.
7. Acceptable use
Boswell is licensed to you for your own personal use. When you use Boswell, you agree not to:
- Resell, rent, sublicense, or share your account or subscription. Your Pro subscription is for you and your own personal Macs. Do not give, sell, lend, or otherwise extend your account credentials or Pro access to any other person or entity.
- Bypass or tamper with the sign-in or entitlement flow. Do not attempt to circumvent the account sign-in, forge or replay an entitlement check, patch the app to unlock Pro features, or otherwise obtain Pro functionality without an active subscription.
- Redistribute the app. Do not redistribute, repackage, mirror, or host the Boswell binary for download anywhere other than https://meetboswell.com or the Mac App Store.
- Reverse-engineer beyond what the law allows. Do not decompile, disassemble, or reverse-engineer the app except to the limited extent that applicable law expressly permits despite this restriction (for example, certain interoperability rights in your jurisdiction).
- Misuse the recording features. Boswell captures audio and produces transcripts locally on your Mac. You are solely responsible for recording lawfully. Do not use Boswell to record any person who has not given the consent required by the recording-consent and privacy laws that apply to you — including "all-party consent" or "two-party consent" laws in force where you or the other party is located. The responsibility for obtaining any required consent rests with you.
- Interfere with the site or its services. Do not attempt to disrupt, overload, scrape excessively, probe, or gain unauthorized access to https://meetboswell.com, its APIs, or the backend that manages subscriptions. Good-faith security research is welcome — see our Vulnerability Disclosure Policy.
- Use Boswell in violation of applicable law. Do not use Boswell to process, record, or retain any information in a manner that violates the laws of your jurisdiction, including data-protection, wiretapping, and professional-secrecy laws.
You are responsible for how you use Boswell and for complying with all laws that apply to your use, including recording-consent laws, data-protection regulations, and any professional or regulatory obligations relevant to your field.
8. Violation & enforcement
If we reasonably believe an account is being used in clear violation of these Terms — for example, attempts to bypass the subscription-entitlement flow, sharing or reselling an account, abuse of the site or its APIs, or conduct that creates legal or security risk — we may suspend or revoke the Pro entitlement tied to that account.
Where it is feasible and not counterproductive (for instance, where providing advance notice would not undermine an active investigation or enable further abuse), we will give you notice and a reasonable opportunity to resolve the issue before we act. Notice will be sent to the email address on file for your account. Enforcement of one provision, or a decision not to act on a given violation at a given time, does not waive our ability to enforce these Terms in the future.
Suspension or termination of Pro access for a violation of these Terms does not entitle you to a refund. Whatever action we take regarding your Pro entitlement, your locally stored recordings, transcripts, and notes stay on your Mac and remain yours.
9. No warranty
Boswell is provided as-is and as-available, without warranty of any kind. While we work hard to make Boswell reliable and accurate, we make no representation or warranty — express, implied, or statutory — that the app will be free from defects or errors, that transcription or summarization results will be accurate, complete, or fit for any particular purpose, or that any feature will continue to work across future macOS releases or LLM provider changes.
You should keep independent copies of any recordings, transcripts, or notes that matter to you. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all implied warranties, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, our total aggregate liability to you arising from or related to your use of Boswell — whether under contract, tort, strict liability, or any other theory — is limited to the greater of: (a) the total amount you paid for your Boswell subscription in the twelve months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) $50 USD.
In no event will Boswell be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages, including lost profits, loss of data, or loss of goodwill, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
These limitations apply to the fullest extent permitted by law in your jurisdiction. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or damages; if those restrictions apply to you, the above limitations may not fully apply, but they apply to the maximum extent possible.
11. Privacy
Our handling of your data is described in our Privacy Policy. In short: Boswell is local-first; your recordings, transcripts, and notes stay on your Mac unless you explicitly choose to send them somewhere. The only data we hold on a server is the record that supports your subscription (your account email and entitlement status). LLM requests sent via BYOK flow directly between your Mac and the provider you have configured; they do not pass through our servers.
12. Notices & communication
How we reach you. We send account, billing, and service notices to the email address on file for your account. Material changes to these Terms are announced through an in-app prompt and through that email address (see section 13). It is your responsibility to keep your account email current and able to receive messages from us; a notice is effective when we send it to that address. If you believe you are not receiving notices, check your spam folder or contact support@meetboswell.com.
How you reach us. Send notices, questions, and support requests to support@meetboswell.com. For matters about these Terms or your license, that is the right inbox. For security reports, see our Vulnerability Disclosure Policy.
Boswell does not currently maintain a physical mailing address for general correspondence; email to support@meetboswell.com is the designated contact channel.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms occasionally. Material changes will be announced via an in-app prompt and to the email address on file for active subscribers. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page is the canonical signal of any revision. If we make changes that materially reduce your rights or increase your obligations, we will give you at least 14 days' advance notice before those changes take effect for existing subscribers.
Continued use of Boswell after a Terms update constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you may cancel your subscription before the effective date.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.
